Earning a Living Blogging?
by Scott Frangos
One of the newer online business models is Blogging. That’s right. Nowadays there’s a good number of people earning a living from their blogs, and a lot more earning a good side income from blogging. How? Well it’s a combination of the old-school business model of publishing, where you place ads in a publication to monetize it, and web facilitated affiliate marketing 9using comment form at bottom of this page).
“Understand what your readers need. Good blogging software, like WordPress, will help you learn about your readers through comments, and popular content.”

Ok BlogMasters — Can you name seven strong BlogMaster-Online Business techniques Mr. Chow uses on his front page? His page is a real study in packing in a business punch. Some might find it too “busy”, but it sure seems to work for Chow. I will award a $10 gift cert. to Amazon.com to the first commentator that names at the seven strongest distinct business BlogMaster methods Chow is using to grow his business and increase his income — deadline April 30th, 2008.
Take for example Mr. John Chow. He was just chronicled in Entrepreneur Magazine as making a “tidy living” from his blog called JohnChow.com. Reportedly he rakes in about $25,000 a month, with an overhead of $550. That pencils out quite nicely, don’t you think?
How does he do it? Take a look at his website, and the first thing you notice is a lot of ads. He also has a free downloadable eBook on Make Money Online that drives more traffic back to his site. You have to “subscribe” to get the book, which means he can send you newsletters with more offers later. He takes advantage of WordPress to create a dynamic site with RSS feeds, and good search engine optimization (SEO). He’ll review your product, site or service on his blog for $495. He’s got active, returning visitors, some of whom have left comments on his bog over 20 times. Nice. You’ll find he also uses affiliate programs to boost his income. Oh, and a good sense of humor doesn’t hurt either — take a look at his about page.
Chow says that traffic is the key to his success. But I think consistently good content is actually what brings your traffic. Understand what your readers need. Good blogging software, like WordPress, will help you learn about your readers through comments, and popular content. Give them more of it. Combine good publishing principles with affiliate marketing and great content that serves up information people can use. That’s the secret. And whether you blog for your entire income, or use a blog to get the word out about your main business products and services, the same keys apply.
